Mercedes Gomez is an immigrant from El Salvador, she arrived in the US at the age of 7, learned to speak English and graduated from high school in Las Vegas, NV where her family settled.
Her years of having a healthy spine were cut short by two traumatic events. During her junior year of high school in 1995 Mercedes was a passenger in 2 car accidents that were merely six months apart. The first accident was a rear end accident which produced whiplash, the force was such that she was told the curve in her cervical spine (neck) had been lost and this could never be reversed. Six months later just as she was being released from chiropractic treatment for the first accident she was involved in another accident. The second accident included the entire high school band who was en route to Knotts Berry farm in California. Once again her neck was re injured at the age of 15, after weeks of wearing a neck brace and chiropractic treatment, Mercedes began to gain mobility. Over the years Mercedes has taught many beginners and worked with many special groups such as : Latino parents in Chicago Public Schools-Yoga in Español. Veterans with PTSD, Youth Programs and Migrant workers.
