In 2010 Mercedes began her studies at Southern Illinois University pursuing a Bachelor's in Geography and Environmental Resources. Her area of specialization is water and climate. She has traveled to El Salvador and Bangladesh in conjunction with her research on global warming and climate change. You can read some of her research here.
